Chat Table

Form: Participatory Installation

This project discusses self-conscious and self-awareness during a social and interpersonal activity, which is chatting. This installation can place either outdoor or indoor. I used a “patio bistro set”, which come with one chat table and two chairs, and have a double-sided portraits size mirrors fixed on the table. Each side of the mirror faces directly to one chair. Therefore, anyone sit on the chair cannot avoid the mirror and their own face reflection when are talking to the other person. The participants experience a chat with knowing how their own faces look like during the conversation. This setting did interrupt the conversation in different ways, often time the topics of their conversations has been affected and changed to the participants’ own appearances.

“对话桌”是一组参与型装置，由一个桌子两个椅子组成，桌子上固定了一个双面镜，面对两个椅子的方向。此作品可在室内展览空间与室外公共空间放置。信息牌告知参与者可每组两人坐在椅子上面对镜子闲聊。人们在交流时通常只会面对对方的脸和神情，参与这个作品却使参与者面对与人交流时自己的脸。因为个体的习惯与性格差异，交谈过程可以是愉快又新奇的，另一些则可能很尴尬，甚至简单的对话也进行不下去。 此作品探索人类的交流感受，以及回应在网络文化、社交媒体横行的时代人与人沟通上的隔阂和自我本位。
